Building consensus and working with people is what I'm good at. We're back on track at Ada County!
RICK'S POSITION ON THE ISSUES IMPORTANT TO YOU
County Wide Land Use: I continue to support a countywide land use plan. The plan should include all types of development opportunities to meet the needs for all of Ada County. Local officials should carefully weigh all the issues involved, including economic development, air quality, and infrastructure concerns.
Landfill: After months of testimony, the Commission unanimously voted to exclude the Elmore County location based upon significantly higher costs, most notably, transportation costs. Our objective was to balance cost control and risk to minimize the long-term exposure to the County.
Barber Park: Barber Park is a great recreational venue for County residents. User fees are reasonable and the cost of operation to the county is minimal. The county is proving to be a very efficient provider of recreational services including pathways and trail systems.
SunCor: Under current Ada County land use guidelines, planned communities are allowed. The priority of the Commission will be to monitor the planning process to insure that all the benefits of a planned community are realized.
Fairgrounds: The Commission recently received the results of a master plan for the Fairgrounds property. Consistent with that master plan, I feel we need to expand the opportunities available on the property and make it more of a year-around facility.
Medicaid Changes: To enact the committee's recommendations, the County will need to dissolve the current EMS taxing district and create a new district that will have the ability to adequately fund the existing shortfall and continue to improve response times.
Experience: I have 25 years of private business experience and 15 years of local government experience. More importantly, I have a great working relationship with my fellow commissioners and have developed many wonderful friendships around the state with my involvement in city and county government.
